Travel Nurse RN - Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit in Chesapeake, VA

Contract (13 Weeks, with possible extension) | Nights | 4x12-hour shifts | 19:00–07:30 | Every other weekend, floating, and holidays within the contract are required | Travelers are expected to work two of the three winter holidays | Block scheduling cannot be accommodated | 48-hour contracts are available; overtime may be applicable after 48 hours

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care in a Cardiothoracic ICU setting, including care for step-down patients under a universal bed model
• Manage arterial lines, central lines, PICC lines, and continuous IV sedation; titrate cardiac and vasoactive drips
• Monitor and interpret hemodynamic data including FloTrac/Vigileo, Pulmonary Artery/Swan-Ganz lines, and ABGs; manage dysrhythmias and multi-system organ failure
• Care for post-cardiac surgery patients (including direct OR arrivals), pre/post cardiac cath/intervention, CABG, Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump, and Impella patients
• Support ventilated patients including ventilator management, BiPAP/CPAP assistance, High Flow Nasal Cannula, ETT/NT suctioning, and CVVHD/CRRT
• Apply strong neuro experience including post-brain surgery care, EVD/ventriculostomy management, and CVA/acute stroke management; maintain infection prevention and isolation precautions

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of experience in a CVICU or CTICU setting
• Active Virginia or Compact RN license in hand at time of submission — no exceptions
• Proficiency in Epic EHR — no exceptions
• BLS certification (American Heart Association only)
• ACLS certification (American Heart Association only)
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Must pass an EKG/telemetry competency test with a score of 80% or higher prior to start (one attempt allowed; no remediation available)
• Fit testing required; facility cannot accommodate PAPR — any history of fit test issues will disqualify a candidate
• No prior license or background hits will be considered — no exceptions
• Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Previous travel nursing experience preferred
• Experience with IABP, Impella, and advanced hemodynamic monitoring devices
• Familiarity with IV insulin protocols and CVVHD/CRRT
• Strong neuro background including EVD/ventriculostomy and acute stroke management
