Key Responsibilities
Conduct and analyze initial and ongoing patient assessments, develop individualized plans of care, implement treatment interventions, and evaluate treatment effectiveness for critically ill cardiothoracic surgical patients.
Manage critical drips with titration and perform hemodynamic monitoring including Swan-Ganz catheter management for post-operative and complex cardiac patients.
Provide nursing care associated with life-supporting technology including ventilator management, IABP, Impella, VAD, and CRRT as applicable.
Recover immediate post-operative CABG and TAVR patients, providing 1:1 care for fresh post-operative cases and 1:2–3 care for more stable patients based on acuity.
Serve as a point of contact for care coordination across hospital departments and collaborate with the interdisciplinary team, including spiritual care, palliative care, and ethics services as needed.
Deliver patient and family education, advocate for patient safety, and participate in ongoing quality improvement initiatives within the unit.
Required Qualifications
Current, valid RN license in the state of practice or covered under a Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC).
Minimum of 2 years of CVICU experience as a Registered Nurse.
Current, hands-on experience recovering immediate post-operative CABG and TAVR patients.
Current experience managing Swan catheters.
Proficiency charting in EPIC Electronic Health Record (EHR).
Successful completion of an EKG exam (required prior to placement).
Preferred Experience / Skills
Experience with Impella, VAD, IABP, and/or CRRT devices.
ACLS certification (required within 6 months of hire if not current); BLS, CCRN, or other advanced cardiac certifications preferred.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
Completion of a Critical Care Course.
