Key Responsibilities
Utilize the nursing process to perform direct patient care activities for all age groups, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation across a 22-bed Cardiac Medical ICU at a 1:2 patient ratio
Monitor and coordinate patient care activities with ancillary departments to optimize patient outcomes and comfort for a complex patient population including sepsis, post cardiac arrest, respiratory failure, GI bleed, DKA, PE, renal failure, liver failure, pancreatitis, and overdose
Operate and manage advanced equipment including Impella, IABP, Prismax CRRT, Zoll internal cooling device, and Arctic Sun
Evaluate the overall effectiveness of care provided by other direct caregivers and maintain professional accountability for patient care delivery
Maintain patient rights and confidentiality of patient information in accordance with applicable nursing practice standards
May be floated to other stepdown units depending on staffing needs
Required Qualifications
Current RN license — must meet eligibility criteria for licensure in the state of Missouri or currently hold Missouri licensure
BLS and ACLS certifications from the American Heart Association (AHA) only
NIHSS certification required
Minimum 3 years of inpatient Cardiac Medical ICU experience
Flu vaccination or approved exemption required for assignments running November 1 through April 1; declinations are not accepted
Must be available the entire first week for orientation (night shift orients on day shift)
Preferred Experience / Skills
TNCC certification
Experience with medical ICU patients with cardiac emphasis, including arrhythmias, STEMI, and post-cardiac arrest care
Experience recovering open-heart surgery patients directly from the OR (CVI experience)
Proficiency with EPIC EMR
