Cardiac Specialty RN (Congenital Cardiac OR)

We’re seeking an experienced Cardiac Specialty Nurse to support a high-acuity pediatric and adult congenital heart surgical program. In this highly specialized perioperative role, you’ll provide safe, evidence-based nursing care for patients undergoing complex congenital cardiac procedures, contributing to excellent outcomes across both elective and emergent cases.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide specialized intraoperative perioperative nursing care for congenital cardiac surgical patients
• Prepare and manage the operative environment, ensuring readiness for complex cases
• Support surgical workflow by scrubbing and/or circulating (based on competency and assignment)
• Maintain strict adherence to sterile technique, patient safety standards, and surgical protocols
• Collaborate closely with cardiac surgeons, anesthesia, perfusion, and the multidisciplinary OR team
• Assist with advanced equipment and technologies used in congenital cardiac surgery; robotic-assisted cardiac procedure support is a plus
• Promote quality outcomes through participation in performance improvement, patient safety, and evidence-based practice initiatives
• Maintain ongoing professional development in a fast-paced, specialized surgical setting

Schedule & Call

• Schedule: Monday–Friday, 0700–1530, dependent on OR case load
• Some weeks may be four 10-hour shifts based on OR schedule and case volume
• Call Requirement: Required
  • Rotating 1st call one week / 2nd call the following week
  • Call begins at the end of the scheduled workday and continues through the following morning

Preferred Qualifications

• BSN highly preferred (or currently enrolled in a BSN program with proof within 6 months of hire)
• 1–2+ years of cardiac surgery experience strongly preferred
• Strong working knowledge of congenital cardiac anatomy, procedures, and specialized OR equipment/technology
• Congenital cardiac surgery experience preferred (pediatric and adult congenital heart cases)
• Experience supporting cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) cases and coordinating with perfusion preferred
• Excellent ability to manage intraoperative workflow, prioritize tasks, and respond effectively in urgent situations
• Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across disciplines
• Basic computer/EMR proficiency

Certifications (Preferred / Career Development)

• National certification such as CNOR/CPN (or equivalent) preferred, ideally obtained within 5 years of hire

Pediatric experience is preferred.
