Utilize the nursing process throughout the perioperative experience, including assessment, care planning, implementation, and evaluation for cardiovascular and thoracic surgical patients.
Serve as a scrub or circulating RN in cardiovascular OR suites supporting procedures such as CABG, surgical valve repair/replacement, thoracic surgery, and cardiogenic shock interventions.
Apply advanced principles of asepsis, infection control, and wound management; monitor for breaks in sterile technique and serve as a resource to perioperative team members.
Provide wound exposure support using appropriate manual and instrument-based retraction, suctioning, and sponging techniques to optimize surgical visualization while minimizing tissue trauma.
Demonstrate working knowledge of hemostasis techniques including manual methods, hemostatic instruments, clips, vascular devices, and chemical agents.
Supervise and coordinate perioperative team actions to promote readiness, timeliness, and patient safety throughout surgical procedures; fulfill on-call and weekend call requirements as needed.
Required Qualifications
Current RN licensure; must be eligible for or currently hold licensure in the state of Missouri.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
Minimum of 1 year of CVOR experience.
Flu vaccination (or facility-approved exemption) required for assignments running November 1 through April 1; declinations are not accepted.
Ability to float as required by the facility and fulfill weekly and weekend on-call obligations.
Preferred Experience / Skills
2 or more years of CVOR experience.
Familiarity with Stryker camera systems, Zoll defibrillators, and similar cardiovascular OR equipment.
Experience with EPIC EMR.
Demonstrated qualities of teamwork, flexibility, and reliability in a fast-paced surgical environment.
