Key Responsibilities of the Hospice RN

• Participate in interdisciplinary patient case conferences as needed
• Utilize critical thinking skills to assess patients and respond appropriately to critical changes
• Manage time efficiently and prioritize patient needs effectively
• Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
• Interact compassionately with patients, families, and co-workers
• Provide patient care with a caring attitude
• Notify care providers of significant changes in patient condition
• Complete admission and paperwork promptly
• Record clear, concise documentation reflecting skilled care
• Obtain and clarify valid MD orders for care delivered
• Ensure completion of admission paperwork by 9am the next business day
• Adhere to standards of nursing and hospice philosophy
• Explain hospice care philosophy and scope to patients and families
• Implement the Plan of Care under the attending physician's direction
• Supervise Hospice Aides every 14 days
• Assist in orientation of new staff as a mentor

Requirements of the Hospice RN

• Successful passage of VNA pre-hire medication test
• Current RN license in Massachusetts
• One year of nursing experience required, or six months with a BSN
• Preferred: Hospice Home Care experience, IV Certification, Computer skills, and BSN
