Description:
Provides professional nursing care to inmates or consumers housed in a state-owned facility.
Observes, assesses, and records symptoms, reactions, and progress of infirmary patients and clinic outpatients.
Makes nursing rounds and takes and records vital signs.
Prepares and administers prescribed medications and ordered treatment plans.
Monitors restrained patients on a timely basis and provides immediate medical attention to emergencies.
Counsels patients regarding the need for medical referrals.
Responsible for the health care of 20-60 bedridden inmates.
Makes rounds, evaluates care needed, and teaches health care principles.
Administers medication and renders direct nursing care as needed.
Performs specialized procedures such as IV therapy, wound care, dialysis, blood transfusion, and CPR.
Organizes and oversees emergency response teams and directs health care staff.
Acts as a lead worker in charge of one assigned shift.
Assists physicians in giving diagnostic health evaluations.
Performs clerical tasks including charting and recording medications and treatments.
Completes required reports and documents relevant medical information.
Orders supplies and maintains inventory of controlled substances and equipment.
Arranges outpatient clinic appointments and prescription refills.
Performs administrative tasks and serves as a liaison with others in the organization.
Conducts and/or attends meetings and serves as an instructor on occasion.
Demonstrates knowledge of registered nursing procedures and state and federal regulations.
Possesses skills in the operation of medical equipment.
Ability to write meaningful, concise, and accurate reports and gather information effectively.
Demonstrates physical fitness required for the role.
