Utilizing the nursing process, the RN assesses the patient and identifies nursing diagnoses based on responses to health problems. The RN develops and implements an individualized plan of care and evaluates the patient's response. The RN uses knowledge of patient needs and the healthcare environment to assist patients in transitioning through their healthcare encounters without any preventable complications or delays. The RN delegates interventions based on the Nursing Practice Act, each patient's condition, and the competencies of the healthcare personnel. The RN provides care to the assigned patient population in accordance with the established protocols and specific standards for the clinical area. The RN performs continuous assessments, consults with team members as required, and provides nursing care that demonstrates patient-centered care. The RN exercises independent judgment in providing nursing care. Effective interpersonal skills, basic computer literacy, and written communication skills are essential. The RN must effectively communicate with patients to address their needs. Responsibilities include conducting medication passes, performing assessments of healthcare requests, and managing withdrawal assessments. The RN will also perform insulin administration, wound care, clinic visits, rounding, and ECGs. Knowledge of nursing standards of care for the specialty area is required.
