Clinical Nurse
Job Summary:
Responsible for providing competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards. The Clinical Nurse coordinates and delivers patient care utilizing the nursing process in a hospital setting and is accountable to the Nurse Manager/Director.
Essential Duties
- Education:
- Engages in identifying and addressing personal learning needs.
- Attends educational programs tailored to identified learning needs.
- Utilizes patient education materials relevant to the patient population.
- Assesses the readiness of patients, families, and caregivers to learn.
- Evaluates patients' developmental levels and factors affecting their ability to learn.
- Evaluation of Care:
- Identifies expected patient outcomes and revises care plans as needed with guidance.
- Participates in interdisciplinary team discussions to evaluate patient care.
- Communicates essential information to ensure continuity of care.
- Implementation:
- Demonstrates competence in caring for patients with complex needs across physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety aspects.
- Performs bedside point of care testing as required by the patient care plan.
- Utilizes organizational and nursing standards, policies, and procedures in care delivery.
- Organizes and prioritizes care based on patient and family needs.
- Consults appropriate resources timely regarding complex care issues and discharge planning.
- Leadership:
- Works towards professional growth by developing goals, adjusting as necessary.
- Collaborates effectively within and across departments.
- Contributes to unit goals and performance improvement initiatives.
- Utilizes communication systems effectively.
- Participates in cost-effective care initiatives and provides feedback to colleagues.

- Patient Assessment:
- Recognizes data from complex situations to prioritize patient care.
- Considers physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs in assessments.
- Synthesizes assessment data into clear communications for others.
- Anticipates discharge needs for patients and their families.
- Builds relationships with families to empower patient advocacy.
- Planning:
- Collaborates with patients and families to create or update care plans.
- Utilizes multidisciplinary resources in care planning.
- Employs full communication methods in conveying care planning.
- Addresses cultural and ethnic issues in patient care planning.
- Demonstrates the ability to prioritize tasks for patients with complex conditions.
- Research:
- Engages with relevant journals and literature to enhance practice.
- Shares insights and inquiries with staff for group assessment.
Skills and Experience
- Minimum of one (1) year of nursing experience required.
- Education:
- Nursing Diploma or an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN/ASN) from an accredited nursing school required.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) preferred.
- Certifications and Licensure:
- Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification required.
