Description

American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Cardiovascular ICU position requiring 3 years of ICU experience including 1 year in CVICU and a WI or compact RN license.

Details

• Work in a 30-bed CVICU within a Level II Trauma Center, Level III NICU, and Comprehensive Stroke Center
• Cares for cardiac, thoracic, and vascular surgical patients including post-op CABG, TAVR/TMVR, valve repairs, heart transplants, pacemakers, esophagectomy, pneumonectomy, lobectomy, and AAA/TVAR repairs
• RN to patient ratio is 1:1, 1:2, or 1:3 depending on patient status, with tech support at 1:8-10
• 12-hour day or night shifts from 0700-1900 or 1900-0700
• 36 or 48 hour contracts available
• Weekend rotation required every other weekend
• Floating required to ED Holding, other ICUs (MRICU, SICU, CICU, Neuro ICU), MSU, sitter duties, and PACU surge
• No on-call requirements
• Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, and GE monitors

Requirements

• Active WI or compact RN license required
• BLS and ACLS certifications required
• CCRN certification preferred
• Minimum 3 years of ICU experience with at least 1 year of CVICU experience required
• Competency in invasive line monitoring (Swan Ganz, a-lines), pacemaker management, chest tubes, cardiac medications, ventilator/trach management, and cardiac rhythm interpretation required
• Epic EMR experience required
• CV surgical experience (ECMO, CVVH, IABP, VAD) preferred
• Candidate's middle name or initial, date of birth, and last 4 digits of SSN required for consideration
• At least one professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN required

Additional Information

• Provide direct nursing care to critically ill cardiac, thoracic, and vascular surgical patients
• Support includes a charge nurse, 24/7 HUC, dedicated CVICU intensivist, CT surgeon on call, onsite hospitalist, general intensivist, and designated respiratory therapist
• Phlebotomy team assists with peripheral blood draws; RNs draw from invasive lines only
• One day of orientation including 2-4 hours of new employee orientation followed by preceptor-guided unit placement
• 6-week schedule cycle with schedules provided 1-2 weeks in advance
• Facility fatigue policy limits staff to no more than 60 hours per week or 5 consecutive 12-hour shifts
• Holiday coverage required for 1-2 holidays per contract
• RTO approval available for up to 7 days
• Scrubs must be any solid professional color without graphics, logos, or designs
• Free parking available with shuttle service for day shift and attached parking structure for night shift
• First-time travelers welcome if they meet experience requirements
• Local candidates accepted at the same rate with no radius restrictions
• Former employees of Advocate Health or its subsidiaries must be separated for at least 12 months before becoming eligible for a travel assignment
