Description
American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Cardiovascular ICU position requiring 3 years of ICU experience with 1 year in CVICU, BLS and ACLS certification, and a WI or compact RN license.
Details
- Work in a 30-bed Critical Care CVICU unit within a Level II Trauma Center, Level III NICU, Magnet-designated, Comprehensive Stroke Center hospital
- Care for cardiac, thoracic, and vascular surgical patients including immediate post-op CABG, TAVR/TMVR, valve repairs, heart transplants, pacemaker placements, esophagectomy, pneumonectomy, lobectomy, AAA repair, TVAR, and carotid endarterectomy
- Patient ratios of 1:1, 1:2 for regular ICU status, or 1:3 for mixed status, with tech support at 1:8-10
- 12-hour night shift from 1900-0700 with some manager flexibility for 36 or 48-hour contracts
- Weekend rotation every other weekend
- No on-call requirements
- Floating required to ED Holding, other ICUs (MRICU, SICU, CICU, Neuro ICU), MSU (1:3 ratio), sitter duties, and PACU surge
- Uses EPIC EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, and GE monitors
- 6-week schedule cycle with schedules provided 1-2 weeks in advance
- Unit follows a fatigue policy limiting staff to no more than 60 hours per week or 5 consecutive 12-hour shifts
Requirements
- Active WI or compact RN license required
- BLS and ACLS certification required
- CCRN certification preferred
- Minimum 3 years of ICU experience with at least 1 year of CVICU experience required
- Most recent relevant experience within the last year
- Competency in invasive line monitoring (Swan Ganz, a-lines), epicardial and transvenous pacemakers, chest tubes, cardiac medications (inotropes, vasopressors, sedation/paralytics), ventilator and trach management, and cardiac rhythm interpretation
- RN must be able to draw from invasive lines; peripheral sticks not permitted (phlebotomy support provided)
- EPIC EMR experience required
- Experience with ECMO, CVVH, IABP, or VAD preferred
- At least 1 professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
- Candidate's middle name/initial, DOB, and last 4 of SSN required for consideration
Additional Information
- Provide direct bedside care for critically ill cardiac, thoracic, and vascular surgical patients
- Strong interdisciplinary support including 24/7 dedicated CVICU Intensivist, CT Surgeon on call, Hospitalist, General Intensivist, and ICU-designated Respiratory Therapist
- Charge nurse available (rarely carries a patient assignment) and HUC support 24/7
- Bedside and nurses' station telemetry monitoring without a dedicated tele tech
- One day of orientation including 2-4 hours of New Employee Orientation followed by preceptor-supported unit orientation
- Holiday coverage required for 1-2 holidays per contract
- Up to 7 days of requested time off may be approved per contract
- Scrubs must be any solid professional color with no graphics, logos, or designs
- Free parking available with shuttle service for day shift and an attached parking structure for night shift
- First-time travelers welcome if minimum experience requirements are met
- Former Advocate Health employees must be separated for at least 12 months before becoming eligible for travel assignment
