Job Summary
Baylor Scott & White Health is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) for the CVOR to provide specialized perioperative nursing care for cardiovascular and thoracic surgical patients. The RN will work collaboratively with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and the multidisciplinary healthcare team to ensure safe, high-quality patient care throughout the surgical encounter.
Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care using the nursing process.
- Assess patients and develop, implement, and evaluate individualized plans of care.
- Provide perioperative nursing care for cardiovascular and thoracic surgical procedures.
- Monitor patients closely and recognize changes in condition, escalating concerns appropriately.
- Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia, surgical technologists, and other healthcare professionals.
- Maintain patient safety, privacy, dignity, and confidentiality.
- Administer medications and treatments according to orders and established standards.
- Educate patients and families regarding procedures, treatment, and recovery.
- Accurately document patient care in the electronic medical record.
- Participate in quality improvement and evidence-based nursing practices.
- Follow Texas Nursing Practice Act requirements, hospital policies, and applicable standards.
- Participate in on-call coverage and weekend coverage when called in.
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license eligible to practice in Texas.
- BLS – AHA only.
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience.
- CVOR experience required.
- Experience with cardiovascular and thoracic surgery.
- Experience with:
- Open-heart surgery
- Open vascular procedures
- Endovascular procedures
- Strong clinical judgment, critical-thinking, and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary surgical environment.
