CVOR Registered Nurse (RN) – Travel Assignment
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) Registered Nurse (RN) to join a high-volume surgical team supporting complex cardiovascular and thoracic procedures. The ideal candidate will have strong Open Heart and/or Endovascular experience and must be comfortable scrubbing in the CVOR.
This is a collaborative, high-acuity environment with approximately 30 surgical cases per day, including 1–2 cardiac cases daily. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to function effectively in a fast-paced operating room.

Common Procedures
The CVOR team supports a broad range of cardiovascular and thoracic procedures, including:
- Open Heart Surgery
- TAVR
- Open Vascular Procedures
- Endovascular Procedures
- Thoracic Surgery
- Complex cardiovascular surgical cases
Required Experience & Clinical Skills
- Previous CVOR RN experience required.
- Strong Open Heart and/or Endovascular experience required.
- Scrubbing experience is required.
- RN must be comfortable scrubbing into cases to:
- Assist with holding the heart
- Support the surgical team during procedures
- Assist with chest closure
- Strong understanding of cardiovascular surgical procedures and sterile technique.
- Ability to anticipate surgical team needs and respond effectively in a high-acuity environment.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and critical-thinking skills.
Certifications
- BLS – Required
- ACLS – Preferred
Key Responsibilities
The CVOR RN will:
- Provide safe, high-quality perioperative nursing care to cardiovascular and thoracic surgical patients.
- Prepare operating rooms, equipment, and supplies for scheduled procedures.
- Assist with maintaining a sterile surgical environment.
- Scrub into CVOR procedures and actively support the surgical team.
- Assist during open-heart procedures, including holding the heart and supporting chest closure.
- Anticipate surgeon and surgical team needs throughout procedures.
- Perform appropriate preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative nursing responsibilities.
- Maintain accurate documentation in Epic.
- Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, perfusionists, OR technicians, and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
- Maintain strict adherence to infection prevention, surgical safety, and sterile technique standards.
- Respond appropriately to urgent and emergent cardiovascular surgical situations.
Schedule
- Primary Shift: 6:30 AM – 5:00 PM
- Shift times may be negotiable based on department needs.
- Weeknight Call: 1 weekday per week
- Weekend Call: 1 weekend per month, including Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, on rotation with staff
- Holiday Call: Not required; availability is preferred when possible
- Call Response Time: 30 minutes
- On-Site Call Room: Available for team members who need to remain on-site during call
Floating Requirements
Based on department volume and staffing needs, travelers may be required to float.
Potential floating assignments include:
- General OR
- PRN General OR coverage when there are no CVOR cases
- In extreme staffing situations, floating may occur within Zone 1 facilities.
Travelers should be flexible and prepared to support other qualified perioperative areas when needed.
Orientation
- Department-Specific Orientation: 1 week
- Candidates must be available and physically in-state for the full week of orientation, even if the first day includes remote onboarding or modules.

- Final selection and offer based on facility approval
Radius Requirement
- 60-mile radius rule applies.
- Candidate's driver's license must be submitted and will be used to verify the applicable radius requirement.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a confident and experienced CVOR RN with strong cardiovascular surgical knowledge, excellent sterile technique, and hands-on scrubbing experience. Candidates should be comfortable working in a high-volume surgical environment, participating in open-heart and endovascular procedures, taking call, and adapting to General OR assignments when needed.
Strong teamwork, reliability, technical competency, and the ability to anticipate the needs of the surgical team are essential for success in this role.
