Job Summary:
Operating Room Open Heart (OR OH) nurse position in Des Moines, Iowa. The role involves providing specialized circulating and scrub support in a Level I trauma center's cardiovascular operating room. The position requires familiarity with cardiac, vascular, thoracic surgeries, and open heart procedures, with an emphasis on excellence in operating room practices.
Job Details:
- Schedule: Day shift with 10-hour shifts, minimum of 40 hours per week
- Required Qualifications: 24 months of current/recent operating room / CVOR experience, with 80% of experience in cardiac cases and 20% in general cases. Strong proficiency in cardiac, vascular, and thoracic surgeries. Basic general surgery circulating experience is required if not assigned to cardiac cases. EPIC electronic medical record experience within the previous 3 years. Trauma Level I experience highly preferred; trauma Level II experience required. No first-time travelers; must have completed at least one travel assignment within the previous 15 months. Scrub experience, including open heart scrubbing. Active Iowa/IA license or multistate license at the time of submission. BLS certification from AHA or ARC is required.
- Preferred Qualifications: Past experience in trauma Level I or II settings.
- Additional Information:
- Minimum of 24 months of current/recent operating room and CVOR experience is required.
- Skill set must be specific to operating room nursing and scrubbing.
- Traveler will be required to float across all campuses, including Des Moines facilities.
- Orientation schedule is approximately 4-5 weeks, including OR, vascular, and cardiac cases, with progressive responsibility and call readiness.
- The shift includes up to 2 overnight shifts per week and 1 weekend per month.
- Call schedule from Friday 5:00 PM to Monday 6:30 AM.
- Holiday work may be required for Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day unless the unit is closed.
- The candidate must have an active Iowa license and valid AHA BLS certification.
