Job Summary
To provide nursing care for patients by following established standards and practices in accordance with the South Carolina Nurse Practice Act. This role involves applying professional nursing theory and practice to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Patient Assessments (20%): Perform comprehensive patient assessments that reflect physical, psychological, socio-cultural, spiritual, cognitive needs, and functional abilities through systematic data collection and review. Communicate assessments appropriately.
- Care Planning (20%): Plan and prioritize patient care based on assessments, evaluate patient progress, and revise care plans to meet expected outcomes. Involve patients and families in care planning and evaluation.
- Clinical Competency (10%): Demonstrate clinical competencies in specific areas of practice as outlined in departmental performance standards.
- Patient/Education Needs (10%): Assess patient and family learning needs, provide relevant education, involve other disciplines as necessary, and evaluate the effectiveness of the teaching in achieving desired outcomes.
- Ethical Care (10%): Identify and respond to ethical issues in patient care while providing nursing care in a non-judgmental manner that respects patient diversity and acknowledges patient rights. Serve as a resource to others for addressing ethical dilemmas.
- Collaboration (10%): Initiate collaborative discussions with physicians and coordinate multidisciplinary activities to plan, deliver, and evaluate patient care.
- Patient Advocacy (10%): Act as an advocate for patients, ensuring that their voices are heard in the care process.
- Regulatory Compliance (10%): Provide nursing care that respects patient diversity and adheres to regulatory requirements, core measures, and quality initiatives to achieve optimal clinical and organizational outcomes.
Skills and Qualifications
- Ability to scrub and circulate.
- Knowledge of professional nursing theory and practice.
- Understanding of organizational policies and procedures for patient care.
- Adept at identifying safety hazards and precautions to create a safe work environment.
- Strong problem-solving and solution-oriented skills.
- Capable of preparing and maintaining accurate patient records and reports.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients and colleagues.
- Excellent critical thinking and situational analysis abilities.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Calm and effective reaction to emergency situations.
Education and Licensure
- BSN degree preferred, or required within five (5) years of hire date.
- Current Registered Nurse licensure in South Carolina or a current compact/multi-state license from a recognized NCSBN Compact State (not a permanent resident of SC).
- Current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Provider Card is required.
- Graduate of an accredited school or college of nursing.
Work Environment
The role requires frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting/moving patients. The incumbent will be exposed to blood, body fluids, or tissue, with a potential risk of exposure to communicable diseases within a healthcare environment. Work may involve stress, deadlines, or irregular hours.
Experience Requirements
Candidates must possess cardiac, vascular, and hybrid experience.
