Alliance Services, Inc. is seeking a travel nurse RN DOU - Direct Observation Unit for a travel nursing job in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Opportunity:

RN - Med Surg/Observation

Job Details:

• 1-2 years of experience in an acute care setting required
• First-time travelers are welcome
• Patient types include: rule-out chest pain, post cath lab, CHF, AFib, rule-out CVAs, TIAs, post IR, cellulitis, and AKI
• Surgical patients are rare
• Average patient stay is 36 hours
• Admit and discharge 2-3 patients daily in a fast-paced environment
• Day shift patient ratio: 1:4-5; Night shift patient ratio: 1:6-8
• Tech support ratio: Day 1:5, Night 1:9
• Required certification: BLS
• Skills required include ostomy care, drain management, and IV skills
• Drip management experience required: heparin, insulin, Cardizem, and Amiodarone
• No ventilator or trach experience required
• Basic med-surg skills required; observation unit experience preferred
• Experience with admissions and discharges in a fast-paced environment preferred
• Charting and equipment includes: EPIC, Alaris, Pyxis, and GE monitors
• Floating may occur to MSUs and ED Holding (1:4 ratio); travelers float first
• Weekend rotation: every other weekend
• Schedule is created 6 weeks at a time; schedule provided 2 weeks prior to start
• No on-call required
• Cannot work more than 60 hours per week or 5 consecutive 12-hour shifts per fatigue policy
• Holiday expectations: 1 holiday per season (Christmas Eve/Christmas Day, NYE/New Year's Day)
• Scrub color: Any - no camo or denim
• Must document pain level before and after administering pain medications
• Free parking available in designated areas

Facility:

This facility is a large 933-bed hospital designated as a Level III Trauma Center and Level III NICU, and holds Magnet Designation as well as Comprehensive Stroke Center status. The Med Surg/Observation unit consists of 28 beds and is supported around the clock by charge nurses, unit secretaries, hospitalists, respiratory therapists, centralized telemetry monitoring with tele techs, and phlebotomy services. The facility is committed to providing high-quality patient care in a well-supported and structured clinical environment.
