Unit Information

Location: Corpus Christi, TX

Floor: ED 1st floor

Building: Bay Area Emergency Department

General Information

• Number of Beds: 16 with 8 hall chairs
• Number of Staff: 6-7 per shift
• Staff Composition:
  • Day Shift: 1 charge, 1 triage, 4-5 nurses (one is mid-shift), 1 US, 1-2 techs
  • Night Shift: 1 charge, 1 triage, 4-5 nurses (one is mid-shift), US 7pm-MN, 1 tech
• Patient Ratios: 1:4 for low acuity ESI 4 & 5, may take up to 6
• Equipment: Cardiac Monitors, Baxter IV pumps, HP’s, Tonopen, and more
• Electronic Medical Records (EMR): Meditech, with vital signs flow into chart

Qualifications

Skill Set Required:

• Must Have:
  • Level II or Level III trauma experience
  • TNCC, ENPC or PALS, ACLS, BLS certifications
• Preferred or Nice to Have:
  • CEN or TCRN, CPI certifications
  • Greater than two years of emergency department experience

Typical Procedures

The following procedures are commonly performed on the unit:

• Assessments and documentation
• Medication administration and wound care
• Splinting and intravenous management
• Urine collection and lab draws
• Caring for patients with ESI levels 5 through 1

Dress Code

Dress code requires:

• Scrub Color: Royal Blue preferred
• Seasonal team spirit attire, such as jerseys (e.g., Astros, Cowboys)

Unit Guidelines/Policies

• Mandatory shift huddles at 7am and 7pm for all staff, unless providing critical care at that time
• EMTALA training is required

• Acknowledged for providing timely care in critical cases such as Stroke, STEMI, Sepsis, and Trauma
