Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an Emergency Department position at a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital, requiring NC or compact RN licensure and prior trauma center experience.

Details

  • Level 1 Trauma Center Emergency Department with 55 horizontal beds, 6 vertical beds, 15 observation beds, and 5 BH holding beds
  • High-volume unit averaging 200-220 patients per day
  • Treats ESI 1-5 patients including trauma, stroke, STEMI, burn, GSWs, MVCs, MI, CVA, cardiac/respiratory arrest, overdoses, and psychiatric cases
  • RN patient ratios range from 3:1 to 6:1 based on clinical area and acuity
  • 12-hour night shifts (1900-0700), 36 hours per week
  • Every other weekend rotation required
  • No on-call or call-back requirements
  • May float to the ED Transition Care Unit
  • Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, Philips monitors, GE point-of-care ultrasound, and GE EKG machines
  • Supported by ED Techs, unit secretary, charge nurse, resource/pod leader nurses, 24/7 critical care pharmacists, respiratory therapy, hospitalists, and intensivists

Requirements

  • Active RN license (NC or Compact) required
  • Current BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • First-time travelers considered only with 3+ years of Level 1 trauma center experience
  • Minimum 12 months of core ED experience with most recent experience within the last year
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Provide comprehensive emergency nursing care using evidence-based practice and clinical decision-making across a wide range of trauma, stroke, and cardiac emergencies
  • Unit currently undergoing renovation, with the second of three phases complete; post-renovation will include two fixed-wing helicopter pads
  • High air ambulance volume as a Regional Trauma Center receiving all ED patient types
  • Travelers unlikely to be utilized in trauma bays during initial contracts
  • Orientation includes New Employee Orientation (NEO) plus 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Scrub color: Royal Blue
  • Free parking available
  • Holiday coverage required for 75% of holidays
  • Must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility to be eligible for travel positions
  • Returning employees must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year following a permanent position
