Travel ER RN
 

Unit / Volume

• 31-bed Emergency Department
• Approximately 78 patients/day
• All ages: infants through geriatrics
• Pediatric patients requiring inpatient intervention are typically stabilized and transferred
• Ratios: 1:4–1:5
• Cerner preferred

Requirements

• 2+ years ER RN experience
• Experience can be from any trauma level
• Prior travel experience required – no first-time travelers
• BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS
• UofL-specific Vistelar training

Required ER Skills

• Triage & rapid assessment
• IV starts
• Foley & NG tube insertion
• NIHSS/neuro assessments
• Codes & critical patient management
• Initiating/titrating pressors, cardiac drips, sedation & insulin
• Moderate sedation using Versed, fentanyl and ketamine
• Hyperthermia/hypothermia management
• Assisting with bedside procedures
• Must be comfortable functioning as an experienced ER resource/subject-matter expert

Patient Acuity

• STEMI/NSTEMI & chest pain
• Heart failure
• Sepsis & DKA
• Respiratory failure
• GI bleeds
• Renal/liver failure
• Behavioral health & CIWA
• VAD patients
• Post-transplant complications
• Trauma including MVA, GSW, falls and head injuries – stabilize and transfer when needed

Schedule

• Days: 7:00 AM–7:00 PM
• Every 3rd weekend
• No call
• Holiday rotation based on need; not expected to work every holiday
• Schedule made in 6-week increments
• Block scheduling not guaranteed
• RTO requires manager approval

Floating

• No floating

Support / Equipment

• 24/7 Charge RN, ER physicians/midlevels, RT, Hospitalist & Intensivist
• Management available 24/7 if needed
• CT/X-ray within the ED
• Ultrasound-capable RNs
• Plum IV pumps
• Omnicell
• Philips monitors
• VAD equipment
• ER staff perform their own phlebotomy
