Registered Nurse: Med/Surg with ER
Position Summary:
This position contributes to the fulfillment of the healthcare organization's vision and mission by exercising appropriate nursing judgment based on knowledge, skills, and understanding in nursing situations. The role includes participating in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care, as well as involvement in a quality assurance program to provide optimal patient care.
Supervision: Reports to the Hospital Nursing Supervisor
Shift: Full-Time, 36 hours per week; Non-Exempt; Days or Nights
Job Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a current valid state Nursing License.
- Maintains current CPR, ACLS, TNCC, NRP, and STABLE certifications.
- Effective communication skills.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Perform nursing care and services for patients, including observing and recording signs and symptoms, administering treatments, assisting with examinations, and participating in patient rehabilitation.
- Prepare, administer, and document medications using the barcode scanning system in the electronic health record.
- Assist in planning, providing, and evaluating patient care as a member of the nursing team.
- Provide total patient care when assigned in various departments, including ER and Med/Surg.
- Conduct cleaning and maintenance of rooms and equipment, including preparation and sterilization of patient supplies.
- Monitor and report on the physical and mental conditions of patients, documenting any significant changes.
- Perform selected procedures and therapeutic treatments as required, ensuring competency is demonstrated.
- Cared for obstetrical patients through the stages of labor, delivery, and post-partum following demonstrated competency.
- Provide care to newborns as needed.
- Participate in nursing care plans in accordance with physician instructions and established standards.
- Promote patient cooperation and assist in teaching self-care to patients.
- Stay informed of nursing practice trends and evaluate their adaptability to patient needs.
- Assume responsibility for maintaining high standards of nursing care and accurate record-keeping.
- Record and transcribe patient orders from physicians.
- Assist in training and orienting new staff members.
- Engage in quality assurance activities and attend necessary educational programs and meetings.

- Perform duties within the scope of licensure and maintain a current professional license as required by state law.

- Comply with organizational compliance programs and participate in training as necessary.
- Demonstrate professional conduct with patients, visitors, and colleagues.
- Willingly accept new responsibilities and cooperate with changes as needed.
- Maintain a neat and clean uniform while adhering to personal hygiene standards.
- Exemplify respect, integrity, compassion, and excellence in interactions with all stakeholders.
Working Conditions:
- Indoor, smoke-free patient care environment.
- Frequent contact with biohazardous materials and communicable diseases.
Other Requirements:
- Shift: 5 PM to 5 AM, 3 days a week (36 hours), including weekend and holiday rotation.
- Holiday coverage may be required.
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience preferred.
- Certifications Required: ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC, STABLE.
