Registered Nurse (RN) - Emergency Room (ER)

Job Description

The Registered Nurse (RN) operates primarily in direct patient care within the Emergency Room (ER) setting, demonstrating proficient clinical practice. This role involves triaging patients, obtaining patient histories and vital signs, and conducting thorough assessments. The RN acts independently to initiate immediate care in life-threatening situations in the absence of a physician. Responsibilities include providing care for both acutely ill and non-acute patients, performing various procedures, and assisting physicians as needed. Moreover, the RN delivers comfort—both physical and psychological—to patients, families, and visitors while providing discharge and follow-up instructions.

Responsibilities

• Perform Nursing Assessments: Conduct nursing assessments, respond appropriately to patient needs, and actively participate in care planning. (25%)
• Assess Patient Needs: Regularly evaluate patient needs while delivering skilled nursing services based on physician-approved care plans and accepted nursing standards. (25%)
• Process Physician Orders: Accurately and promptly process physician/provider orders and follow up on medication changes and order clarifications. (20%)
• Evaluate Treatment Plans: Assess the effectiveness of treatment plans and make suggestions or facilitate changes to enhance patient care. (15%)
• Collaboration in Treatment Updates: Actively engage in updating and revising treatment plans in collaboration with other healthcare team members using current patient information. (15%)

Qualifications

• 2+ years of Emergency Room nursing experience (required)
• Travel experience (preferred)
• Experience with Epic (preferred)
• Current skills checklist relevant to Emergency Room nursing (required)
• Two supervisory reference forms completed within the last two years (required)
• Active American Heart Association BLS certification (required)
• Active American Heart Association ACLS certification (required)
• Active Michigan nursing license (required)

Additional Information

Note: Work includes a 36-hour guarantee and requires staff to work every third weekend. There are no on-call requirements for this position.
