Registered Nurse – Emergency Department

About the Position

Seeking an experienced Emergency Department Registered Nurse to provide high-quality, compassionate emergency care in a fast-paced acute care setting. The ED RN is responsible for triage, assessment, treatment, patient education, and coordination of care for patients across all age groups presenting with emergent and urgent medical conditions.

Contract Requirement: Must be available to work through the holiday season. Flexible contract duration available between 22–26 weeks.

Required

  • Minimum 1 year acute care hospital RN experience
  • Minimum 2 years Emergency Department experience

Required Licensure & Certifications

Required

  • Active New York State RN License
  • BLS (AHA or RQI only)
  • ACLS (AHA or RQI only)
  • PALS (AHA or RQI only)
  • Stroke Certification / NIHSS

Schedule Information

Shift Options

  • Days: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
  • Nights: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM

Weekly Hours

  • 36 Hours Per Week
  • 3 x 12-Hour Shifts

Weekend Requirement

  • Every Other Weekend (EOW)

Holiday Requirement

  • Holiday Rotation Required
  • Must be available to work throughout the holiday season

On-Call Requirement

  • 2 On-Call Shifts Every 4 Weeks

Position Responsibilities

Triage & Patient Assessment

  • Perform rapid patient assessments upon arrival
  • Identify urgent and emergent care priorities
  • Assign appropriate triage levels according to established standards
  • Gather information through:
    • Patient interviews
    • Family interviews
    • EMS reports
    • Direct observation

Emergency Care Delivery

  • Provide care for patients across all age groups
  • Perform emergency interventions and treatments
  • Utilize invasive and non-invasive procedures as appropriate
  • Monitor and reassess patient response to treatment
  • Identify and respond to changes in patient condition

Critical Thinking & Clinical Judgment

  • Detect and document deviations from normal findings
  • Identify contributing factors leading to emergency events
  • Prioritize care effectively in high-acuity situations
  • Implement appropriate interventions in a timely manner

Patient & Family Education

  • Prepare patients and families for procedures and treatments
  • Provide discharge instructions and follow-up education
  • Assess patient and family understanding
  • Coordinate referrals for ongoing care when appropriate

Relationship-Based Care

  • Establish trust and rapport with patients and families
  • Address anxiety, pain, discomfort, and safety concerns
  • Provide frequent communication and updates
  • Maintain a healing, patient-centered environment
  • Recognize and address psychosocial and cultural needs

Team Collaboration

  • Work collaboratively with physicians, EMS personnel, and interdisciplinary team members
  • Assist with delegation and mentoring when appropriate
