Travel Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN) – 13-Week Contract in Tacoma, Washington

Join a high-acuity Emergency Department team as a Travel Registered Nurse (RN) in Tacoma, WA. This 13-week travel nursing opportunity offers the chance to care for a diverse patient population in a Level II Trauma Center serving approximately 140–150 patients each day. Tacoma provides an inviting Pacific Northwest setting with access to waterfront destinations, parks, arts and culture, and convenient connections to the greater Seattle area.

Travel Nursing Job Details

• Assignment Duration: 13 weeks, ending January 16, 2027
• Schedule: 36 hours per week; typically three 12-hour shifts
• Shift: 12-hour nights, with available start times including 3:00 p.m., 7:00 p.m., and other approved mid-shift options
• Weekend Rotation: Every other weekend
• Call: No on-call requirement
• Healthcare Setting: Level II Trauma Center Emergency Department
• Patient Volume: Approximately 140–150 patients per day
• Patient Ratio: Typically 1:4, with flexibility to 1:5 for lower-acuity assignments
• Documentation: Epic electronic medical record
• Orientation: Initial onboarding followed by approximately three to four 12-hour precepted shifts

Emergency Department RN Job Requirements

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license eligible for practice in Washington
• At least 1 year of strong Emergency Department or Emergency Room nursing experience
• Experience caring for pediatric through geriatric patients in a high-acuity emergency setting
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC, NIHSS, and CPI/MOAB
• Successful completion of the required traveler competency and telemetry examinations before the start date
• Proficiency with Epic electronic medical records is required
• Strong cardiac rhythm interpretation, IV therapy, medication administration, procedural sedation, and blood administration skills

Travel Emergency Nurse Responsibilities

• Deliver safe, compassionate emergency nursing care to patients ranging from pediatrics to geriatrics
• Assess and prioritize patients with trauma, gunshot wounds, sepsis, STEMI, stroke, DKA, chest pain, respiratory conditions, mental health concerns, and other emergent diagnoses
• Recognize changes in patient condition and initiate timely interventions in a high-acuity Emergency Department
• Perform cardiac rhythm interpretation, IV therapy, medication administration, procedural sedation support, and blood administration
• Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, emergency department technicians, charge nurses, educators, and security personnel
• Maintain accurate documentation in Epic and safely manage medications using Pyxis and Alaris equipment
• Support trauma response, resuscitation, cardiac emergencies, and other critical interventions
• Complete required competency assessments and participate in unit orientation and ongoing professional development
