Emergency Room Registered Nurse (ER RN)

Position Overview

The Emergency Room Registered Nurse (ER RN) is responsible for delivering high-quality care to patients in the Emergency Department. The role involves working collaboratively within a dynamic team, providing immediate assessment, treatment, and coordination of care for a diverse patient population. This position requires strong clinical skills and the ability to handle a variety of medical emergencies.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care and interventions to patients experiencing medical emergencies.
• Perform patient assessments and document relevant medical histories accurately.
• Assist in triage processes within a designated triage area.
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, including managing common drips such as vasopressors and anti-arrhythmics.
• Support critical care procedures including trauma and sepsis management.
• Participate in code blue and resuscitation efforts as necessary.
• Coordinate with physicians and mid-level providers for comprehensive patient care.
• Utilize monitoring technology effectively to assess and interpret vital signs.
• Collaborate with respiratory therapists and other health professionals to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
• Support the flow of the department including managing patient placements and boarding as required.

Qualifications

• Current certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS, NRP, PALS, TNCC.
• Previous experience in an emergency department or critical care setting preferred.
• Strong clinical skills in trauma, pediatrics, sepsis, STEMI, and stroke management.
• Ability to perform procedural sedation and manage acute medical situations effectively.
• Effective communication skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience with electronic health records (EHR) and relevant technology.

Work Environment

The Emergency Department is a 12-bed facility, with an additional 12-bed urgent care area. The department experiences variable patient volume ranging from 40-100 patients daily. Nurses will take assignments with a typical patient ratio of 1:4 or 1:5 during shifts.

Additional Information

• Unit orientation will be provided for 1 to 2 days as per agency standards.
• Staff may be required to float occasionally to support other units.
• Weekend and holiday work will be required, with expectations varying based on shift assignments.
• Dress code consists of navy blue scrubs.
