Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an Emergency Department position requiring 2 years of ED experience and recent Epic charting experience in a Level III Trauma Center.

Details

  • 12-hour Mids/Nights shift schedule, 36 hours per week
  • Level III Trauma Center with 375 licensed beds, 46 in the ED (including 5 Safe Psych rooms and a 5-space Fast Track)
  • Average of 200 patients per day
  • Patient population spans pediatrics to geriatrics including trauma, GSW, sepsis, COVID, STEMI, stroke, DKA, mental health, and high acuity medical cases
  • High geriatric population including falls and STEMI cases
  • No invasive neuro procedures such as craniotomies performed
  • Small pediatric volume, generally transferred to a partner facility
  • Day shift ratios of 1:4-5, flexing based on acuity and staffing
  • No floating required
  • No on-call requirements
  • Central and bedside telemetry monitoring at the nursing station with no dedicated tele tech
  • Uses Epic, Alaris, and Pyxis systems

Requirements

  • Active WA or compact RN license required
  • Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC, NIHSS, and CPI/MOAB
  • Minimum 2 years of ED experience required
  • Recent Epic charting experience required
  • Strong skills in cardiac rhythm interpretation, IV insertion, and ED drip and medication administration
  • Experience with procedural sedation, blood administration, and cardiac medications required
  • TNK administration experience preferred
  • Required to complete and pass a Traveler Telemetry Competency exam prior to start

Additional Information

  • Supported by ER techs, resource/float nurses, 24/7 RT, ED educator, 24/7 security, house supervisor, social work, and pharmacy teams
  • Charge nurse rarely takes a patient assignment
  • Orientation includes a first day of new employee orientation, Epic training if needed, time in the mental health area, and time at the front, followed by a second day shadowing a preceptor on the assigned shift
  • Schedule is provided three weeks at a time, typically received about 10 days before the schedule begins
  • Likely to work a consistent shift pattern for a week at a time, though this is subject to change based on unit needs
  • Weekend requirements vary depending on unit needs
  • Holiday coverage required for 2 of 5 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, New Year's Day)
  • Scrubs may be any professional color
  • Modest piercings (studs only) permitted and tattoos must not be offensive
  • Free parking available in designated areas
