Registered Nurse (RN)

Position Purpose

To coordinate and implement an individualized plan of care for each patient using the nursing process, practicing within their scope, standards, policies, values, and mission of the organization.

Essential Functions and Basic Duties

Position-Specific Performance Expectations, Duties, and Responsibilities:

  • Plans, implements, and evaluates patient care plans based on patient assessment to optimize outcomes and maximize available resources.
  • Requires prioritization and critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment.
  • Complies with triage, treatment, evaluation, and documentation guidelines.
  • Utilizes evidence-based practices and competence to collaborate with the healthcare team, ensuring quality outcomes and coordinating patient care, including transfer, discharge, referral, and psychosocial support needs.
  • Identifies barriers to effective communication based on psychosocial, literacy, financial, and cultural considerations.
  • Evaluates the learning needs of patients and/or families and provides appropriate education based on age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
  • Effectively delegates patient care to ancillary personnel and may precept student nurses and new hires.
  • Practices according to professional and ethical standards as outlined in the ANA Code of Ethics and the state Nurse Practice Act.
  • Demonstrates caring attitudes and behaviors to develop therapeutic relationships and engage in patient and family teaching as appropriate.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Maintains strict patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Reports to work punctually and completes assigned duties within established timeframes.
  • Actively contributes to departmental and organization-wide performance improvement initiatives.
  • Ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements, maintaining adherence to departmental, hospital, state, and federal standards and policies.
  • Follows all infection control, safety, and risk management procedures to maintain a safe environment for patients, the public, and staff.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age (21 for positions requiring driving, with a valid driver's license).
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Must successfully pass a background check.
  • Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen and breath alcohol test (if applicable).
  • Must complete an Employee Health meeting prior to starting employment.

Education, Licensure, and Certifications

  • Current and active Registered Nurse (RN) license (Colorado or Compact) - Required
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (to be obtained within ninety (90) days of hire) - Required
  • Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification (to be obtained within six (6) months of hire) - Required
  • Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC) certification (to be obtained within one (1) year of hire) - Required
  • Current Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification (to be obtained within one (1) year of hire) - Required
  • Current STABLE certification (to be obtained within one (1) year of hire) - Required
  • Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification (to be obtained within one (1) year of hire) - Required
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or related field - Preferred
