Clinical Nurse
Job Summary
The Clinical Nurse provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards. Reporting to the Nurse Manager/Director, the Clinical Nurse is responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process in a hospital setting.
Essential Duties
- Education:
- Participates in identifying and meeting learning needs of self.
- Attends education programs based on identified learning needs.
- Utilizes patient education materials relevant to the patient population with assistance.
- Assesses readiness to learn of the patient, family, and caregivers.
- Evaluates the developmental level of patients and factors affecting their ability to learn.
- Evaluation of Care:
- Identifies expected patient outcomes.
- Seeks guidance as needed in revising the plan of care.
- Participates in discussions with interdisciplinary team members in evaluating patient care.
- Communicates relevant information to promote continuity of care.
- Implementation:
- Demonstrates competence in caring for patients with complex problems, addressing physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety aspects of care.
- Performs bedside point of care testing as required for the patient care plan.
- Utilizes organizational and nursing standards, policies, and procedures in care delivery.
- Organizes and prioritizes care according to patient and family needs.
- Consults with appropriate resources in a timely manner regarding complex care issues and high-risk discharge planning.
- Leadership:
- Develops goals to promote professional growth with assistance or minimize limitations.
- Achieves goals and objectives within the identified timeframe or renegotiates with the supervisor.
- Participates in developing and achieving unit goals and performance improvement activities.
- Effectively uses communication systems.
- Participates in promoting cost-effective care.
- Provides feedback to co-workers.
- Stays informed about public policy and regulatory guidelines affecting the healthcare environment.
- Promotes a safe, clean, and secure hospital environment for all.
- Patient Assessment:
- Recognizes relevant data from complex situations to determine priorities for care.
- Includes appropriate physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs in assessments.
- Synthesizes assessment data into meaningful information for communication to others.
- Assesses and anticipates discharge needs of individual patients and families.
- Develops relationships with families to enhance their ability to advocate for patients and themselves.
- Planning:
- Collaborates with patients and families to prepare or update the plan of care.
- Utilizes multidisciplinary resources in planning care.
- Communicates effectively to convey care planning.
- Identifies and addresses cultural and ethnic issues in patient care planning.
- Demonstrates the ability to prioritize tasks for patients with complex needs.
- Research:
- Reads relevant journals to enhance practice.
- Engages with staff to assess applicability of new ideas and questions.
Required Skills & Experience
- One (1) year of nursing experience.
Education
- Required Education:
- Nursing Diploma, OR
- ADN or ASN from an accredited school of Nursing.
- Preferred Education:
- BSN or MSN from an accredited school of Nursing.
