Position Overview

We’re seeking an experienced Travel Emergency Room RN for a 12-hour day shift assignment in Fort Defiance, AZ.

This is a high-volume, highly flexible Emergency Department opportunity where nurses rotate through multiple areas of the department and may occasionally float to other qualified departments based on staffing needs.

Emergency Department Environment

The Emergency Department includes:

• 11-bed Main Emergency Department
• 6-bed Fast Track
• 7-bed Emergency Observation Unit

ER nurses are expected to rotate regularly through these areas. Assignments can change daily and may also change during a shift depending on patient volume and departmental needs.

Travelers may also be assigned to:

• Triage
• Quick Registration
• Entry Screening
• COVID testing areas
• Immunization clinics, as needed

Schedule & Flexibility

The typical schedule is approximately 7 days on / 7 days off, with:

• 36 hours one week
• 48 hours the following week

The primary schedule is 7a–7p, but travelers must be flexible. Shift assignments may change during the contract based on staffing needs, including potential day or mid-shift coverage.

Travelers may also occasionally float to other departments where they are qualified and competent. Floating may involve:

• Taking a patient assignment
• Answering call lights
• Answering phones
• Other task-oriented responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

• Provide safe, efficient emergency nursing care across multiple ED areas.
• Assess, triage, monitor, and treat patients according to established protocols.
• Adapt quickly to changing patient volumes and acuity.
• Rotate between Main ED, Fast Track, and ED Observation.
• Support triage, registration, screening, and other departmental functions as assigned.
• Assist with COVID testing or immunization clinics when needed.
• Maintain accurate documentation and effective communication with the interdisciplinary team.
• Float to other qualified departments when required.
• Maintain flexibility as patient volume and staffing needs change.

Qualifications

Required Experience

• Minimum 2 years of recent RN experience in Emergency Room/ED nursing.
• Additional experience may be required depending on the position.
• Strong ability to work independently in a fast-paced emergency environment.
• Demonstrated competency in multiple emergency care settings.

Required Certifications

• AHA BLS
• AHA ACLS
• PALS or ENPC
• TNCC
• Conscious Sedation Certification
