Registered Nurse (RN)

Position Summary

The Registered Nurse is responsible for delivering patient care through the nursing process, which includes assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. This role involves directing and coordinating nursing care based on established nursing practice standards. The Registered Nurse collaborates with other healthcare professionals to provide quality, cost-effective, and efficient care, aiming for optimal patient outcomes. This position serves as a resource person in various situations and takes into account age-specific considerations and cultural diversity when rendering patient care.

Position Qualifications

• Minimum Education: Must have completed a nursing education program from an NLN approved institution.
• Minimum Experience: Preferred one year of experience in a healthcare setting as a Registered Nurse.
• License, Certification, Registration: Must be licensed in good standing in the State of Alaska as a Registered Professional Nurse. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required. The successful candidate must pass and maintain competencies for this position.
• Equipment/Tools: Proficient in the use of office equipment (computer, telephone, fax machine, copy machine) and relevant medical equipment (EKG, Cystoscopy).

Specialized Knowledge and Skills

• Proficient oral and written communication skills.
• Able to practice nursing as described in Alaska statutes regarding Registered Nursing.
• Cognitive and technical knowledge with the ability to manage care across the continuum.
• Flexibility with work schedule and ability to take independent actions within prescribed limits.
• Ability to utilize the nursing process in patient care provision.
• Competence in administering treatments and medications, interpreting diagnostic tests, and providing education to patients and families.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Ability to work in a patient care setting.
• Basic EKG skills and nursing skills.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
• Capability to document actions involved in care delivery and follow guidelines and procedures.
• Effective presentation of information and responding to questions from diverse groups.
• Theoretical knowledge of nursing processes, care management, and continuity of care.
• Mathematical proficiency for various computing and analytical tasks.
• Problem-solving skills to handle practical issues.
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in different forms.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervises unit secretaries and Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) in collaboration with the Charge Nurse.
