Registered Nurse - Pre-Operative & Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)
Job Summary
This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated Registered Nurse to join a dynamic Pre-Operative and Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) team at a community hospital in Ithaca, New York. The facility features 7 operating rooms, supporting a broad range of surgical specialties including Neuro, Plastics, ENT, Breast, General, GYN, Urology, Ortho, Vascular, and Endoscopy.
The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring optimal patient outcomes by providing comprehensive care from pre-operative assessment and preparation through post-anesthesia recovery. This position requires a commitment to patient safety, excellent clinical skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced surgical environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough pre-operative assessments, ensuring patients are medically prepared for surgery.
- Provide compassionate and effective post-anesthesia care, monitoring vital signs, managing pain, and addressing post-operative complications.
- Administer medications safely and accurately as prescribed.
- Educate patients and families on pre-operative procedures and post-operative care instructions.
- Collaborate effectively with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient care.
- Respond promptly and effectively to emergent situations, demonstrating strong critical thinking and intervention skills.
- Maintain accurate and detailed patient records.
Required Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Recent experience in Pre-Operative and/or Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU). (Years of experience not specified.)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.

Licensing Requirements
- Current and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of New York.
