Job Title: Registered Nurse - Emergency Room Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Emergency Room Duration: 12 weeks Shift: 12 Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience required License: RN License required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, PALS, TNCC, NIHSS Must-Have: 2 years of experience in an emergency room setting. Ability to handle diverse patient populations, including pediatrics. Familiarity with common emergency room medications and drips. Strong critical thinking and assessment skills. Description: This position involves providing high-quality care in a fast-paced emergency room environment. The facility treats an average of 70 patients per day. Nurse to patient ratios are typically 1:3-4, depending on acuity. Candidates must pass the ADVANCED Dysrhythmia exam with a minimum score of 83% before signing the contract. There are three attempts allowed to pass the exam. Call-outs are highly discouraged and may lead to termination. The emergency room is a Level III trauma center with capabilities for STEMI and stroke receiving. The unit features 18 beds, including 4 critical rooms used for trauma and codes. Travelers are permitted to take on triage responsibilities as needed. Security is present in-house 24/7, conducting rounds in the emergency room. The facility does not have a separate holding area; holds are intermixed within the ER. Registered Nurses will care for intermixed holds and may assist with psychiatric patient placements as needed. Respiratory Therapists are available in the emergency room 24/7 for specific treatments. There are two Patient Care Technicians assigned to each shift, who may assist with sitter duties as necessary. Registered Nurses will interpret telemetry strips as no monitor techs are available on site. Diagnostic imaging services such as X-ray and CT are available nearby, and staff will assist in transporting patients to these services. Phlebotomy services are provided on-site for lab draws. Shifts are scheduled using a matrix system to accommodate traveler needs, with a requirement to work every other weekend. Holiday requirements are integrated with permanent staff rotation. Schedulers aim to accommodate traveler requests regarding floating and assignments, with travelers serving as the first to float if necessary. Scrubs must be navy in color, including undershirts, while scrub jackets are optional but must also be navy. Orientation duration is based on individual experience, including a check-off packet for review with a preceptor. Candidates who extend their assignments are preferred. The cancellation policy allows for up to four shifts to be canceled during a 13-week assignment. This position requires proficiency in electronic charting systems.
