Contractors will manage a heavy load of strokes, cardiovascular issues, diabetes, wounds, behavioral health, and sepsis cases. Some trauma cases may be encountered, but this is not a trauma-designated unit. The nurse will provide nursing care utilizing the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation for assigned patients. The role includes addressing increasingly complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families according to their level of practice. Using appropriate protocols, the nurse administers medications and treatments while monitoring for side effects and effectiveness of prescribed treatments. Documentation of patient history, symptoms, medications, and care provided is essential. The nurse will assess learning needs and provide education to patients, family members, and caregivers while identifying issues and resources. The nurse practices independently and demonstrates awareness of all relevant aspects of each situation. Responsibilities also include making appropriate assignments and delegating to other care providers as needed. The nurse should consistently meet competency expectations. Completion of all annual competency verification requirements is necessary.
