Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Emergency Room Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum 3 years License: Required Certifications: BLS ACLS NIHSS PALS TNCC Must-Have: Emergency room experience preferred. Good communication and assessment skills. Description: Department: Emergency Room. 50-mile radius for all travelers. Evening shift times: 10:00 AM - 10:00 PM, 12:00 PM - 12:00 AM, or 6:00 PM - 6:00 AM. State-certified Level III trauma center. Cath Lab available Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM. Certified as a Primary Stroke Center. Number of beds/trauma bays: 2 triage beds, 2 trauma bays, 7 additional beds. No fast track available. Separate Triage area available. Travelers with triage experience may be assigned to triage. No separate holding area in the emergency room. We ensure an inpatient bed is always available. One separate psych/seclusion room with video monitoring. Security available on-site 24/7. On average, treat approximately 40 patients per day. Nurse to patient ratios are variable; maximum is typically 3-4 to 1 for short periods. Common diagnoses include abdominal pain, falls, and chest pain, with about 20% pediatric patients. Common drips include antibiotics, cardiac drips, Heparin, TPA, and insulin. Emergency Department staffed by one board-certified physician 24/7. Mid-shift includes either a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant. An Emergency Department charge nurse is available daily and will take patients. House Supervisor on-site 24/7. Combination of nurse aids, EMTs, paramedics, and patient sitters available with specific duties. Respiratory therapy is present in-house 24/7. Lab draws ABGs, and nurses perform EKGs. CT and MRI facilities adjacent to the emergency room. Transport processes vary based on monitoring status. Phlebotomy performed by both nurses and lab personnel. Block scheduling for 12-hour shifts: 6:00 AM - 6:00 PM, 10:00 AM - 10:00 PM, 1:00 PM - 1:00 AM, and 6:00 PM - 6:00 AM. Travelers typically serve every other weekend. Holiday requirements include one winter holiday and one summer holiday. No call or standby requirement exists. No floating requirements are indicated. Gray scrubs are provided as the dress code. Unit-specific orientation is usually with another nurse over three shifts. Cancellation policy allows for cancellations up to 24 hours per 13 weeks at no cost. Charting system: EPIC.
