Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Emergency Room Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 hours (19:00 - 07:30) Experience: Minimum of 1 year License: Active compact license honored Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS, PALS Must-Have: Previous charge experience preferred Description: All previous permanent employees of any affiliated facility must be separated from the health system for a minimum of 3 months to qualify for a travel position. First-time travelers are not accepted. Travelers must be open to floating to different campuses. Weekends are required every other week. Typical emergency department patients include adult/pediatric patients, ambulance triage, ED holding, and lobby triage. The department has 11 hallway beds and a total of 40 beds. Responsibilities include breathing treatments, chest tube setup/care, CPAP/BiPAP, procedure sedation, RSI (Rapid Sequence Intubation) drugs, trach care, and ventilator management. Nurses will administer blood/blood products, perform cardioversion/defibrillation, and operate cooling/warming blankets. Daily tasks include CRRT/dialysis and obtaining 12 lead EKGs. Shift schedules are posted every 6 weeks. Patient ratios typically range from 4-5. Interdisciplinary support includes respiratory services, interpretation services, radiology, social services, pharmacy, and unit secretaries. Daily census is approximately 115 patients. The unit handles a variety of patient age groups including neonates, adolescents, infants, adults, pediatrics, and geriatrics. Special procedures performed in the unit include breathing treatments and chest tube care. References covering 1 year within the last 3 years are required during the compliance process prior to start. Modules for compliance are completed pre-start and annually and are self-reported.
