Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Emergency Room Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 hours (19:00 - 07:30) Experience: Minimum 1 year required License: Active compact license preferred Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS, PALS required Must-Have: Open to floating to different campuses; weekends required Description: All previous permanent employees of any affiliated facility must be separated from the health system for a minimum of 3 months to qualify for a travel position. One year of experience is required. First-time travelers are not accepted. The traveler must be open to floating to different campuses. Weekends are required every other week. Typical emergency department patients include adults and pediatrics. The department includes 11 hallway beds and a total of 40 beds. Common procedures include breathing treatments, chest tube set-up and care, and CPAP/BiPAP administration. Additional tasks involve procedural sedation, rapid sequence intubation, trach care, and ventilation management. Nurses will administer blood and blood products, perform cardioversion and defibrillation, and manage cooling and warming blankets. CRRT and dialysis may also be performed. Obtaining 12 lead EKGs and using rapid infusers are part of the role. The schedule is posted every 6 weeks. Patient ratios may vary and staff may be required to float between different facilities. Interdisciplinary support includes respiratory services, interpretation services, radiology, social services, pharmacy, and unit secretaries. Patient demographics include neonates, adolescents, infants, adults, pediatrics, and geriatrics. Daily census averages around 115 patients. The unit is designed to handle typical emergency department procedures including triage and trauma care. References are required covering the last year of experience. Submittal must include documented compliance within the relevant timeframe. Modules for training may involve non-billable hours and require completion prior to starting in the position.
