Job Title: RN - Emergency Department Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Emergency Department Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years as an Emergency Department RN License: Active RN License required Certifications: BLS required, ACLS required, TNCC preferred, National certification in Emergency nursing preferred Description: RN position in the Emergency Department. Facility has 140 licensed beds with no trauma designation. It is not a teaching hospital but is recognized as a Chest Pain Center, ECCC level 3, and a Remote Stroke Center. The Emergency Department has 22 beds plus surge beds. The average daily patient census is approximately 85 patients. Patient types and common diagnoses include chest pain, strokes, diabetes, abdominal pain, motor vehicle collisions, hypertension, and mental health issues. Patient ratios are RN 1:3-4 depending on the assigned zone, LPN 1:4, and 2 CNAs per shift. The following skills are required: Drip management for various medications including heparin, insulin, and epinephrine. Phlebotomy is essential as nurses are responsible for drawing blood. Unit activities are supported by a RT and hospitalist present 24/7. Telemetry monitoring is available, with central telemetry in the ER and nurses required to read strips. The unit uses an electronic health record system and various medical equipment such as IV pumps, vital sign monitors, and glucose stat strips. Floating may occur within the ER, and potentially to other ER facilities nearby. The unit culture promotes good teamwork and includes many long-term staff members.
