Job Summary
Join our dedicated team as an Emergency Room Registered Nurse at a hospital in Fairfield, Iowa. This role involves providing comprehensive, patient-centered care within a dynamic emergency department setting. You will utilize the full scope of the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient needs, ensuring high-quality care for a diverse patient population experiencing acute illnesses and injuries.
As an ER RN, you will be responsible for managing critical situations, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team, and guiding patient education. This position requires a proactive approach to patient care, strong clinical judgment, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while upholding professional nursing standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct rapid and comprehensive patient assessments upon arrival in the Emergency Department.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans for patients presenting with various emergency conditions.
- Administer medications, perform treatments, and operate medical equipment specific to emergency care.
- Monitor and interpret patient vital signs, cardiac rhythms, and other physiological data, responding to changes promptly.
- Provide clear and concise patient and family education regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, and discharge instructions.
- Collaborate effectively with physicians, specialists, and ancillary staff to ensure seamless patient flow and optimal outcomes.
- Document all patient care activities accurately and in a timely manner within the electronic health record.
- Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment, adhering to infection control and safety protocols.
- Direct and supervise the activities of licensed practical nurses (LPNs) and unlicensed assistive personnel (UAPs) as appropriate.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (American Heart Association preferred).
- Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification (American Heart Association preferred).
- Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
- Current Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification.
- Iowa Mandatory Reporter Certificates (Child Abuse & Dependent Adult Abuse).
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience as an Emergency Room Registered Nurse.
Skills & Competencies
- Advanced clinical assessment and critical thinking skills specific to emergency medicine.
- Proficiency in emergency procedures such as IV insertion, wound care, splinting, and cardiac monitoring.
- Competence in operating and troubleshooting emergency medical equipment (e.g., defibrillators, ventilators, cardiac monitors).
- Exceptional ability to prioritize and manage multiple high-acuity patients in a fast-paced, high-stress environment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective patient, family, and team interaction.
- Demonstrated ability to remain calm and effective under pressure.
