Job Description

Job Title: Registered Nurse II, Emergency Department Profession: RN - ER Specialty: RN - ER Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: At least one year of registered nurse experience within the last 24 months and acute critical experience within the last 12 months, or EMT and ED Tech with a minimum of 2 years of experience. License: Current license as a registered nurse in the State of California. Certifications: Evidence of current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certification. MICN desired to be completed within one year of hire. Must-Have: Basic computer skills. Description: Organizational Requirements: Commitment to the safety and well-being of associates and patients is essential. All associates are required to receive all required vaccinations as a condition of employment and annually thereafter, where applicable. Medical and religious exemptions may apply. Job Summary: This position is not exempt and is represented by a union. To perform successfully as a registered nurse, specific characteristics are needed. The requirements listed below represent the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this position. Professionalism and Self-Development: Education and experience should include graduation from an accredited school of nursing. Current basic life support (BLS), advanced cardiac life support (ACLS), and pediatric advanced life support (PALS) certifications are required. MICN, NRP, TNCC, and CEN certifications are encouraged and recommended. Physical Requirements/Work Environment: This job requires frequent bending, squatting, kneeling, climbing, reaching above shoulders, sitting, walking, standing, talking, hearing, and performing repetitive hand motions. Vision requirements include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must demonstrate the ability to pull, lift, transfer, or push a patient, including maneuvering into various positions. The employee must be able to pull and lift up to 50 pounds from the floor. Potential exposure to blood and body fluids is anticipated. Protective measures should be employed while performing tasks with exposure potential. Job Roles: A registered nurse should demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care. This includes assessing data reflective of patients' status and interpreting it relative to their specific needs. Proper handling of emergency situations in a prompt, precise, and professional manner is vital. Accurate and continuous nursing documentation, including patient histories, conditions, treatments, and assessments, is essential. Nurses must maintain and meet expectations for all competencies, licenses, certifications, and education requirements. They should have current knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on the age of the patient and clinical condition. Meeting charge nurse expectations may be part of the responsibilities. Professional behavior and guest service expectations should be met consistently. Monitoring hemodynamic status of patients and correctly interpreting results is required. Nursing documentation must reflect a comprehensive understanding of the nursing process. Performing head-to-toe assessments on all patients and regular reassessments per policy is part of the role. Providing a professional environment and appearance while on hospital grounds is expected. Willingness to perform other duties and innovations as assigned is important. Staffing ratios and schedules may vary, with rotational weekend coverage expected. Documentation systems and communication methods are standardized, and collaboration with other healthcare professionals is part of the role. This position may involve floating to other units if needed.
