Job Title: Registered Nurse - Emergency Room Profession: RN Specialty: RN - ER Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: One year in acute care experience required. License: Current RN license in the state of practice required. Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required. Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) required within 6 months of hire or transfer. Must-Have: Associate Degree (A.S.) or equivalent required. Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred. Description: The position involves providing nursing care for emergency department patients. Care includes triage, treatment, and discharge for individuals from newborns to geriatrics. Key responsibilities include completing accurate triage assessments on all patients. Notifications of all abnormal signs, symptoms, and vital signs to the emergency medical provider must be done consistently. Patient orders should be reviewed and completed in a timely manner. Providing medication side effects teaching to all patients receiving medication in the emergency department is required and always included in discharge instructions. The nurse must recognize symptoms of cardiac or respiratory distress and other impending emergencies at all times. Appropriate nursing interventions in both stable and emergent patient situations must be administered. Competence in routine nursing skills, including medication administration and intravenous therapy, is essential. Care and maintenance of indwelling catheters and drains, as well as safe use of medical equipment in critical care settings, is necessary. Understanding and following chain of command per policy is required. Accurate interpretation of ECG rhythms and management of care during life-threatening emergencies is essential. The clinician should demonstrate knowledge of lead functions and make recommendations for best monitoring based on patient presentation. Knowledge and skill in providing care during Code Blue, Code Stroke, Sepsis, and Trauma Activations is critical. Employment involves completing legible, accurate, and timely documentation of all nursing care provided. This includes evaluating the patient's response to medications, treatments, and procedures. Consistent performance of unit-specific safety and quality control checks is necessary. Safe and timely coordination and collaboration with inpatient units when admitting patients from the emergency department must be facilitated. Other job-related duties may be assigned as needed. Compliance with vaccination requirements is mandatory for all associates. Medical and religious exemptions may apply. Participation in E-Verify is required.
