Registered Nurse - Long-Term Care / Skilled Nursing Facility Job Summary

Join our dedicated team as a Registered Nurse in Lewiston, Maine, providing comprehensive care within a dynamic long-term care and skilled nursing facility. This role involves partnering with residents and interdisciplinary care providers to foster a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment through direct and indirect patient care.

The facility encompasses specialized units, including a 31-bed unit focused on Alzheimer's/dementia care, a 42-bed Transitional Rehabilitation Unit for short-term skilled nursing and rehabilitation, and a 42-bed long-term care unit.

You will deliver person-centered care to a diverse patient population, ranging from individuals requiring long-term placement in a home-like setting to those recovering from acute illnesses, injuries, or surgeries such as fractures, joint replacements, and strokes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct and indirect nursing care to residents in a long-term care and skilled nursing environment.
  • Collaborate effectively with residents, families, and the interdisciplinary care team to develop and implement individualized care plans.
  • Utilize verbal and non-verbal communication techniques, particularly when caring for residents with Alzheimer's/dementia, understanding that behaviors can be valid forms of communication.
  • Perform comprehensive geriatric assessments and manage various conditions, including IV therapy and advanced wound care.
  • Monitor resident conditions, administer medications, and document care accurately and timely.
  • Ensure a safe and therapeutic environment for all residents.
  • Demonstrate flexibility to float to other units as needed to support facility operations.
Required Qualifications
  • Associate's Degree in Nursing.
  • Valid, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Maine or a compact state.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 1-3 years of previous Registered Nurse experience, preferably in a long-term care, skilled nursing, or rehabilitation setting.
  • Proficiency in medical terminology.
Skills & Competencies
  • Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent verbal and non-verbal communication abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team.
  • Proficiency in IV therapy, wound care, and geriatric assessment and management.
  • Understanding and application of person-centered care principles for residents with cognitive impairments, including Alzheimer's/dementia.
  • Ability to manage challenging behaviors effectively and therapeutically.
  • Adaptability and flexibility to meet fluctuating staffing and patient care needs, including floating to different units.
Shift Details

  • Hours: 12-hour shifts, 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM
  • Days per Week: 3 days per week (36 hours/week)
