Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Emergency Department Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Evenings Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Valid nursing license required Certifications: ACLS, PALS, TNCC Must-Have: Experience in emergency department, conscious sedation, critical thinking, and AMI management Description: This position is for a Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department. The facility is a Level 4 trauma center. It has 24 beds, 4 critical rooms, and 1 trauma room. An intake model is used for lower acuity patients with flexible RN to patient ratios. There is a dedicated triage area, and travelers with demonstrated triage ability are authorized to triage. ED holds are managed internally within the ER. There are two well-equipped psychiatric/seclusion rooms. Security personnel are present 24/7 in the department and rove the campus. On average, the department treats 80-110 patients per day. The nurse to patient ratio is 1:4 for the general emergency department and 1:2 or 1:1 in critical care situations. ED physician and mid-level providers are available 24/7. A charge nurse is present 24/7 and does not take an assignment in the general unit. Emergency Department Technicians have a ratio of 1:10-12 and perform numerous support tasks. Paramedics work in the intake area during peak hours and are trained to perform ED Tech duties with additional medication administration capabilities. Respiratory therapy is available in-house, providing intubation, vent setup, and other urgent procedures. RNs are responsible for troubleshooting respiratory equipment and notifying respiratory therapy of any issues. Monitoring is standard for all beds, and nurses are trained to read their own telemetry strips. Patient transport for imaging services is managed separately. Phlebotomy may be performed by both phlebotomists and RNs, depending on the situation. Block scheduling is offered, but no more than 4 consecutive shifts are allowed. Weekend and holiday work is required, with some holidays negotiable. The role includes a call or standby requirement as scheduled. Floating between designated units is expected and is generally pre-scheduled. Scrubs must be navy blue. Specific orientation involves 2 days of hospital orientation followed by hands-on training in each emergency department with a mentor. The charting system utilized is Cerner.
