Emergency Room Registered Nurse (ER RN)

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Emergency Room Registered Nurse (ER RN) for a dynamic role in Mauston, Wisconsin. This position is responsible for providing comprehensive nursing care to patients of all ages, from pediatric to geriatric, presenting with a wide range of conditions across the illness-to-wellness continuum in a fast-paced Emergency Department setting.

The ER RN will play a critical role in patient assessment, triage, intervention, and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to ensure efficient patient flow and optimal outcomes. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced ER professional to contribute to a dedicated healthcare team focused on delivering high-quality emergency care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform comprehensive age-appropriate patient assessments and implement individualized care plans.
  • Conduct rapid and accurate triage using the Emergency Severity Index (ESI) 5-level process.
  • Administer medications, IV fluids, blood products, and perform complex treatments, including emergency resuscitation protocols.
  • Monitor and manage life support and automated technical equipment.
  • Document all patient care, observations, and responses accurately and concisely using medical terminology in the electronic health record.
  • Collaborate effectively with physicians, peers, ancillary departments, and outside agencies to coordinate patient care and enhance patient flow.
  • Prioritize and manage the care needs of multiple patients in a high-stress environment.
  • Provide patient and family education regarding conditions, treatments, and discharge instructions.
  • Advocate for patients, utilizing the chain of command when necessary.
  • Maintain a safe and organized work environment, including equipment checks and supply management.
  • Participate in professional development activities and required educational programs.
  • Comply with legal consent, transfer protocols, and other legislative requirements to preserve patient rights.
Required Qualifications
  • Associate's Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Minimum of two (2) years of recent experience as a Registered Nurse in an Emergency Department setting.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
  • Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses (ATCN) certification.
Skills & Competencies
  • Proficiency in ESI 5-level triage.
  • Expertise in emergency resuscitation protocols and medication administration.
  • Skilled in IV insertion and administration of fluids, blood, and blood products.
  • Ability to monitor and operate life support and automated technical equipment.
  • Strong critical thinking and rapid problem-solving skills in high-stress situations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including medical terminology.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize, delegate, and manage multiple patients effectively.
  • Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) documentation systems.
