Job Title: Emergency Room Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Emergency Room Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Active Illinois license Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS Must-Have: 2 years of Emergency Room experience required Description: The Emergency Room is not a trauma facility. It has 16 beds, with 12 private rooms. There is a separate triage area for patient assessment. There is no separate holding area in the Emergency Room. One ER room is designated for safe seclusion. Security is in-house 24/7, with intermittent presence in the ER. On average, the ER treats approximately 65 patients per day. Nurse to patient ratios are 1:4. The required certifications include BLS, ACLS, and PALS, with TNCC preferred. Common cases include sepsis, congestive heart failure, pneumonia, suicidal patients, and abdominal pain across all age groups. The facility uses all common emergency room drips, including vasopressors and insulin. There is a physician in the ER 24/7, along with mid-level coverage for 14 hours a day, seven days a week. A charge nurse is present 24/7, who does not take an assignment. Patient care technicians (PCTs) are available on shifts to assist with procedures, activities of daily living, vital signs, and transportation. Respiratory therapy manages all equipment and is available 24/7. Registered nurses are responsible for troubleshooting equipment including vents and CPAPs. There are no monitor techs; RNs must be able to read and interpret telemetry strips. An X-ray facility is located within the ER, while CT services are available outside the ER. Registered nurses and techs perform lab draws. Self-scheduling is allowed, with block scheduling possible. Weekend requirements are every other weekend, with holiday requirements every other holiday. There is no call or standby requirement. Travelers will not float unless previously agreed upon during hiring. The dress code is navy blue scrubs, which are not provided. A specific orientation shift is required for the unit.
