Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Emergency Room Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day/Evening Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 3 years in Emergency Room License: State license required Certifications: BLS ACLS PALS or ENPC TNS or TNCC NIHSS Must-Have: 3+ years of Emergency Room experience. Moderate sedation experience. Description: Provide emergency care to the community, focusing on non-trauma cases. The facility is STEMI and stroke ready. Cath lab availability depends on the day and hours. The emergency department has 24 beds and does not have a separate fast track area. Triage is conducted within the department using the ESI rating system. Patients in the holding area are intermixed with other ER patients, and nurses will care for these patients. There are 4 behavioral health safe rooms available for patients. Security is present in-house 24/7 and is often seen in the emergency department. The average patient volume in the emergency department is 60-80 patients per 24 hours. Nurse-to-patient ratios are typically 1:4-5, adjusted based on staffing and acuity. Fluency in critical care drips is necessary. Common diagnoses encountered include respiratory viruses, myocardial infarctions, and motor vehicle accidents, ranging from neonates to geriatrics. Nurses will employ moderate sedation and perform lumbar punctures. Nurse staffing includes a charge nurse and a house supervisor available 24/7. Emergency department technicians may assist with essential duties such as EKGs, blood draws, wound care, vitals, and transport. Respiratory therapists are available but may also require nurse input for treatments. Imaging is directly connected to the emergency department. Nurses may need to transport patients to imaging when necessary. Phlebotomy tasks are handled by technicians and nurses. Shifts are flexible, with a variety of start times and require coverage for weekends and holidays on a rotating basis. There is no call or standby requirement. Floating to other departments may be necessary, depending on experience. Professional scrubs are required in solid colors. Orientation will include shifts to familiarize staff with department operations.
