Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Emergency Room Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Days, Friday, Saturday, Sunday Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, TNCC, ENPC or PALS Must-Have: Quick learning skills Ability to work independently and as a team player Strong practical skills Not reliant on ancillary resources At least 2 years of Critical Access ED experience preferred Description: The candidate must already have an account created and registered to run the MN NETSTUDY prior to submission. Required certification includes BLS, ACLS, TNCC, ENPC, or PALS. Nurse-to-patient ratios vary based on acuity, with a common ratio of 1:3. The unit treats patients across the lifespan, from newborns to geriatrics, including respiratory, cardiac, trauma, and stroke cases. The facility is recognized as a Level IV trauma and stroke-ready designation. There are 10 beds and 2 trauma bays available for patient care. The emergency room has a separate triage room, and competent triage skills are required for nursing staff. A locked seclusion room is available for psychiatric patients within the unit. There is no in-house security, but staff are expected to have de-escalation skills and utilize local law enforcement for emergencies. On average, the emergency room treats approximately 25-30 patients per day. Common drips used in the department include norepinephrine, nitroglycerin, heparin, amiodarone, and propofol. The facility employs one provider in-house 24/7, which may include an MD, DO, or PA. There is no charge nurse on each shift, and the charge nurse does not take on an assignment. A CNA/Tech is available from 1400 to 2230 to assist with transport preparation, vital signs, room turnover, stocking, EKGs, swabs, and splinting if trained. Respiratory Therapy is available during daytime hours and on-call at night for procedures such as EKGs, ABGs, and respiratory treatments. Registered Nurses are required to read their own telemetry strips and assist with initiating treatment as necessary. Phlebotomy duties can be performed by both RNs and lab staff. Shifts are scheduled in 6-week blocks, ensuring no back-to-back day and night shifts without adequate turnaround time. Every other weekend and holiday work is required. There is no call or standby requirement, and no floating is expected. Professional dress is required, with no specific scrub color mandated. Unit-specific orientation will continue until competency is achieved, with a maximum of four shifts. Candidates must not have been employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any facility associated with the system within the past year. Requests for time off (RTO) should be provided upfront, as additional requests will not be approved. The charting system used is EPIC. A BSN degree is not required for this position.
