Job Title: Emergency Room Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: ER (Emergency Room) Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: 1 year License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, PALS Must-Have: Behavioral health experience, Existing traveler preferred with completed assignments Description: This position involves working in a fast-paced emergency room environment. The average number of patients treated is approximately 66 per day. Nurse-to-patient ratios are typically 1:4. Triage experience is acceptable and travelers with this background may be involved. Patients include cases of stroke, STEMI, sepsis, chest pain, and behavioral health issues. There are designated rooms for psychiatric patients. Security personnel are present 24/7 in the emergency department. Nurses may be involved in managing drips including insulin, cardiac, and critical care drips. Behavioral health experience is preferred for this role. Caring for pediatric patients is rare, as they comprise about 1% of the patient population. RN responsibilities include drawing labs and performing breathing treatments. Transport within the emergency department is managed by the staff there. Resources include both monitor technicians and respiratory therapists. Nurses will be required to monitor telemetry using Phillips monitors. Weekend and holiday work are expected as part of the scheduling requirements. Collaborative teamwork and accountability are vital within the unit. All members of the team are treated with respect and appreciated for their contributions. Most travelers choose to extend their assignments because of the supportive team environment.
