Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Emergency Room Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour Evening/Night Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week Experience: 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC Must-Have: Independent thinker, self-motivated, 2-3 years of experience Description: The unit consists of 11 beds/trauma bays. There is no Fast track available. There is no separate Triage area, and travelers are not required to do Triage. Direct bed assignments until full, then quick Triage is implemented. There is no separate holding area; ER holds are intermixed within the ER. ER RNs manage their own ER holds. All ER RNs are responsible for various tasks in the ER. There are separate Psych/seclusion rooms available. In-house security is present at all times. The average number of patients seen per day is 37. Nurse-to-patient ratios are typically 1:3-4. Required certifications include BLS, ACLS, PALS, and TNCC. Common diagnoses and types of patients in the ER include a diverse range of emergencies. The work environment requires independent thinking and self-motivation. The Emergency Department includes one physician who works 12-hour shifts. A Charge Nurse or House Supervisor is available. Triage RN also acts as Charge RN for half of the day. Nurse aides, paramedics, and patient sitters are occasionally available. The EMR used in the department is MEDITECH. Respiratory Therapy is in-house 24/7. RNs are responsible for reading strips, and there are X-Ray and CT services adjacent to the ER. Phlebotomy is performed by ER RNs. Shifts include 07:00 to 19:00, 10:00 to 22:00, 13:00 to 01:00, and 19:00 to 07:00. Weekend work is required every other weekend. Holiday work is also required unless specified in a signed contract. There is a rare call or standby requirement. Floating to other units is only voluntary and does not usually occur. Scrub color is navy blue. Unit-specific orientation is provided. The trauma level is 4, located next to a major interstate.
