Job Title: Registered Nurse - Emergency Room Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Emergency Room Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC Must-Have: Independent thinker, self-motivated, 2-3 years experience Description: Unit has 11 beds and trauma bays. No Fast track available. Direct bed assignment until full, then quick triage. ER holds are intermixed within the ER. ER RNs manage their own ER holds and perform all duties. There are separate psych/seclusion rooms. In-house security is available. Average of 37 patients per day. Staff to patient ratios are 1:3-4. Required certifications include BLS, ACLS, PALS, and TNCC. Common diagnoses include various emergency cases. Experience in independent thinking and motivation is necessary. ED Physicians and Mid-Levels work 12-hour shifts. Charge Nurse and House Supervisor duties assigned to Triage RN. Nurse aides, paramedics, and patient sitters are available occasionally. The EMR system in use is Meditech. Respiratory therapy is available in-house 24/7. RNs are responsible for reading strips. Imaging department is next to the ER. Phlebotomy is performed by ER RNs. Shifts include 07:00-19:00, 10:00-22:00, 13:00-01:00, and 19:00-07:00. Weekend requirement is every other weekend, based on unit needs. Holiday work is required unless specified in a signed contract. Call is rarely required. Floating is optional and typically not for this specialty. Scrub color is navy blue. Unit-specific orientation will be provided. Trauma level is 4 and the unit is located near a major interstate.
