Job Title: Registered Nurse - Emergency Room Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Emergency Room Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Valid RN License required Certifications: ACLS, BLS required Must-Have: PALS, NIHSS, TNCC preferred Description: This position is located in the emergency room. The unit has a 50-mile radius rule. Candidates must provide a copy of an unexpired driver's license. The emergency room has 32 beds, including a triage area with a separate Fast Track. The Fast Track is open from 11 am to 11 pm. Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4 in the main emergency room. In the 5-bed lower acuity area, the ratio is 1:5. The Fast Track ratio is 1:4-6. The facility uses an electronic medical record system. Charge nurses do not have patient assignments. There are three ER technicians per shift with a ratio of 1:10-12. Every other weekend is required, including Saturdays and Sundays. Staff members participate in a holiday rotation schedule. Scrub color is royal blue. Respiratory therapy services are available 24/7. Registered nurses may provide aerosol treatments for non-vented patients. There are three physicians on staff during peak hours, with reduced coverage at night. An IV team is available house-wide until 10 pm on weekdays and until 3:30 pm on weekends. The pharmacy operates 24/7 but does not have a pharmacist present in the emergency room. Shifts may include 0615 to 1845, 1100 to 2300, and 1815 to 0645. There is no floating outside of the emergency department. Nurses will have 1-2 shifts of floor-specific orientation with a preceptor. Common diagnoses include chest pain, respiratory failure, abdominal pain, and pediatric cases. Major trauma cases are stabilized and transferred to a higher-level trauma center. Approximately 18% of patients admitted require further admission. Patients typically spend an average of 2 hours and 45 minutes in the emergency room. The environment is known for being efficient and positive. The team is welcoming to travelers and adaptable to their needs. No false nails are permitted in the clinical setting. Charting is done using an electronic medical record system.
