Job Title: Emergency Room Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: ER (Emergency Room) Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: 12 Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: 2 Years Required License: Must have state license in hand Certifications: ACLS, BLS, PALS, TNCC Must-Have: 2 years of emergency department experience. Accepts duos and first-time travelers. Description: The facility operates a 14-bed emergency room with two trauma bays. The emergency room has a fast track with three designated rooms. There is a separate triage area with two triage rooms. Travelers may perform triage after review and understanding of facility policies and procedures. Patients are typically held in the department, utilizing attached ACU rooms when overflow occurs. There are separate psych/seclusion rooms available. Security is not in-house 24/7 but maintenance serves as security. Local police can be utilized, along with internal code backup. On average, the emergency room treats 40 to 60 patients per day. The nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:3-4 during the day, adjusting to 2 RNs overnight. Common diagnoses include traumas, STEMI, strokes, hunting accidents, and motor vehicle accidents. Nurses manage various drips, as needed. Emergency department physicians are in-house 24/7. Charge nurses take patient assignments during their shifts. Support staff, including CNAs, medics, and LPNs, are present 24/7. Respiratory therapy is available in-house 24/7, providing ABGs, breathing treatments, and EKGs. There are no monitor techs in the emergency room; RNs monitor central stations. X-ray services are available around the clock, with a CT unit located nearby. Phlebotomy is available 24/7 for lab draws. The schedule is managed by the unit manager. Every other weekend and holiday requirements are expected. There is no mandatory call, but volunteering for extra shifts is an option. Scrub colors are any solid color that is clean and professional. Unit-specific orientation includes computer-based training and two days of floor orientation focused on policies and department-specific practices. All clinicians must clock in and out while working.
